Homebase for hotels: where it fits and where it doesn't

Last reviewed 2026-08-26. We update these pages quarterly — competitor pricing and features change; check their sites for current details.

The short answer: if you run a coffee shop, use Homebase — it’s a genuinely good product with a real free tier. If you run a hotel or motel, you’ll hit its ceiling the first morning you try to manage housekeeping with it: Homebase has no concept of rooms, room status, or the fact that your workload is set by last night’s checkouts.

Where Homebase is the better choice

  • You’re not a hotel. Restaurants, retail, gyms — Homebase is built for you, and ProfitClock isn’t. We only serve lodging.
  • Budget is zero. Homebase’s free tier (one location, up to a handful of staff) is a legitimate way to get off paper. No hotel-specific tool matches free, including us.
  • You want built-in payroll. Homebase sells its own payroll product. ProfitClock deliberately doesn’t — we produce payroll-ready hours and let you keep ADP, Gusto, or Paychex.

Where it breaks down at a hotel

  • No rooms. Your day starts with which rooms checked out and which stayed over. Homebase can’t generate a cleaning list from room status, track a room’s checklist, or tell you a room is guest-ready. You end up running Homebase plus a whiteboard — and the whiteboard is doing the hotel part.
  • Per-location tiers that assume one kind of business. Homebase pricing runs roughly $24.95–$99.95 per location per month depending on tier, which is fair for a shop. But hotel features simply aren’t in any tier at any price.
  • Portfolios are “locations.” A management company with eight properties gets eight location tabs, not a consolidated daily labor picture, cross-property overtime view, or org roles for a principal vs. a GM.
  • Labor context is sales-shaped. Homebase compares labor to sales — a restaurant metric. Hotel labor only makes sense against occupied rooms, which is why ProfitClock reports labor per occupied room.

The honest bottom line

Homebase wins on price and breadth; ProfitClock wins on being a hotel system. If your property is under ~15 rooms with two or three staff, Homebase free might genuinely be enough. From ~20 rooms up — where housekeeping is a team, payroll is your biggest controllable cost, and the owner isn’t on site every day — the hotel-shaped gaps cost more than the subscription difference. Estimate what those gaps cost you, or see it live in a demo.
